Established in 1920, Satish Chander Dhawan Government College Ludhiana has adequate infrastructure and physical facilities for teaching and learning. Located in the centre of the city, it is one of the prime educational institutions with a sprawling 42 acre campus with parks and natural green areas, Lecture Theatres, Classrooms, Laboratories, Computer Labs, Internet Connectivity, Smart Class Rooms, ICT enabled Seminar Halls and a Conference Room.
Academic: The college campus comprises of 61 Classrooms including 26 Smart Classrooms with state-of-the-art teaching and learning aids like LCD projectors and internet connectivity to accommodate theory classes and 21 laboratories for carrying out the practical work. The Academic Blocks are classified as Block A, B, C, D, Dr. B. R. Amedkar RUSA, and Administrative Block. Block A and the Punjabi Department (part of Block B) are part of the Heritage Building constructed in year 1920. The classrooms are airy, spacious and are equipped with proper number of desks for students, lights, and fans. All the buildings in the campus are fully accessible to the persons with disabilities.
Canteen
The campus offers canteen facility to its students, staff and visitors. It has a large sitting area, a separate hall for the staff and the visitors. Good quality food products/items are offered for sale. The Canteen Committee controls over the allotment of the canteen contract, quality of the items, cleanliness of the serving, preparing area and the rates.
Tuck Shop
The campus has a small tuck shop near open air theatre where students can have the general items, stationary items from within the campus. It also provides photostat facility at very nominal charges to the students. The Canteen Committee controls the allotment of the contract, quality of the items and the rates.
Hostels
The college has separate hostel for boys and girls within the main campus. The hostels have 24X7 security and CCTV surveillance, water and electricity supply. Both the hostels have roof top solar power generation plants of 30, 25 kw capacity respectively.
Hygienic and good quality food is offered in the mess. Living quality of high standard is ensured by a committee of the senior teachers which controls over the proper functioning of the hostels.
Parking Facility
The college has ample space for providing parking space to its students, staff and the visitors. There is a separate two wheeler parking lot for boys and girls, a dedicated parking lot for the faculty and the visitors.
Girls Common Room
There are two Girls’ Common Rooms for the recreational activities for girl students. News-papers, magazines and other general study material is available there for spending the free time between classes.
Sahir Auditorium
The college has a very spacious and fully air-conditioned Auditorium named as Sahir Auditorium to commemorate our illustrious alumnus the Legendary Poet / Shair Sahir Ludhianvi. It has a capacity of 450 persons.
New Seminar Hall
The college has a recently renovated seminar hall called New Seminar Hall with touch panel LED display for seminars, conferences and presentations with a capacity of 150 persons.
Medical Room
There is facility of a medical room is for providing first aid to students in case need arises.
Sports
The college is committed to offering resourceful infrastructure for holistic and all-round development of students. It provides adequate facilities for indoor and outdoor sports as well as other student and faculty support amenities. There is a hockey ground which has a history of hosting international matches. It has a 400-metre track having a capacity of 1500 spectators, a football ground and a volleyball court having state of the art lighting system and net enclosure which boasts of producing sportspersons of the international repute. A cricket pitch is there for organizing cricket matches/tournaments along with eight net practice pitches for practice sessions.
There are four Sports Wings: Volleyball, Basketball, Athletics, and Handball. There is free hostel arrangements for sports wing players. In the session 2022-23, college students won medals in different kinds of sports such as Volleyball, Basketball, Athletics, Wrestling, Cricket, Skating, Taekwondo, Karate, Weight lifting, etc.
Library
Shri Guru Arjan Dev Library of the college is fully automated using updated software Soul-3.0. There is also facility of N-list programme where faculty and students can access all the reference material online. The library building has two storeys, well stocked with latest books, journals, magazines, newspapers, as well as e-books and e-journals. The library has more than 1,07,400 books, 6300 e-journals, 2 lakh eBooks, subscription to 4 journals, 20 newspapers, and 40 magazines. The first floor is devoted to reading room. In addition to the central library, the departments have their own departmental libraries where the students can get the course related books. A separate library for evening college with 6230 books is also offered by the institution for Evening College. The institution also provides the facility of membership of the Extension Library of Panjab University Chandigarh established at Regional Centre of Panjab University Ludhiana.
