Botany and Industrial Microbiology Department

The Botany Department was established in 1932 and since its foundation, the department has provided immense knowledge about the different aspects related to plant development and catering to the needs of the medical students. It was in the year 1998 when the department of Industrial Microbiology was started. The department is equipped with its own departmental library where curriculum related literature and books takes precedence. The museum has a wide spread collection of different specimens for enriching the students' knowledge. The three departmental laboratories are equipped with fully functional instruments. The availability of some of the appliances such as Centrifuge, Autoclave, Laminar air flow, Incubator, Hot air oven, Spectrophotometer and Water distillation unit allows the students to understand the complex process of microbial world. Besides this, the department has Gulistan-e-Sahir as its botanical garden which was named after Sahir Ludhianvi. It is spread over an area of approximately 6000 sq. ft. It has rare and important medicinal plants such as Palash (Butea monosperma), Arjun (Terminalia arjuna), Harad (Terminalia chebula), Bahera (Terminalia bellirica), Vajradanti (Barleriaprionitis) and many more. The seminars, lectures, poster making and oral presentation are part and parcel of the department. The students of Industrial Microbiology also attend mandatory training sessions.
