The Department of Chemistry came into existence in 1932 in the college and since its inception the department has been imparting quality academic education to students. The Department constitutes an 11 member faculty expertise in all the major areas of chemistry. There are four well-furnished laboratories equipped with modern instruments such as flame photometry, conductivity meter, fuming cupboard, polarimeter, refractometer etc. required to carry out undergraduate and postgraduate level experiments. The main objective of the department is to provide a strong foundation in fundamentals of chemistry through the courses offered by the university and a comprehensive practical exposure to the various instrumental techniques to the students. Students seek career opportunities in many sectors such as pharmaceuticals, paint, rubber, paper industry, health, food quality control, pesticides, soil science, textiles industry, oil industry etc. They are eligible for manufacturing, quality control, testing as well as research and development jobs in these sectors. Students are also eligible for a career in teaching after qualifying the National UGC-CSIR NET exam. Students can also opt for career progression like doing PhD in chemistry/allied subjects in universities across India and abroad.
