The Economics department is the core and heart of S.C.D Govt. College Ludhiana. Its foundation started with the inception year of college in 1920. The post graduate classes in Economics Department were introduced in 1938. Its vision is to build capacity and frontiers of knowledge and to produce high caliber of graduate and post graduate students, those who can apply their knowledge to solve real life economic issues and make effective policies for all sections of society.
The department has sanctioned strength of 9 faculty members, in all the major areas of economics. The Department has well furnished library equipped with 750 books to meet the needs of underprivileged students. The department consists of 2 smart classes, computers, laptops, printing infrastructure and well-equipped modern projectors, LED’S, cupboards, newspaper stands, magazines and journals stands. The main objective of the department is to provide excellent teaching with dedication and commitment and to motivate the students, to develop the spirit of enterprise and innovation and to promote research and development. Many of our students have been employed in well-known MNC’s of international repute. Along with this they excelled in Indian Economic Service, Probationary Officer Exams, NET-JRF, and other well known government exams. Our students are pursuing doctorate and well-known degrees at international level on fellowships and scholarships due to their high intellectual competence.
The mission of our department is to create employable skills in students, making them competent enough to get their academic ground established in long run with combined efforts of professors and other support staff of college. Our department is organizing extension lectures, annual inter college quiz competitions, eco vision fest which includes treasure hunt, paper reading contest, PPT presentations to develop the overall personality of students. The professors focus upon inculcating the mindset of self-entrepreneurship, startups and developing ideas according to the changing needs of global economic environment.
