The Department of Geography started Geography as an elective subject in 1925. P.G Department was shifted from the campus of Panjab University, Lahore to SCD Govt. College in the year of 1948. This Department is one of the oldest Departments in North West India offers P. G in Geography.
Department has a well designed museum, fully equipped GIS lab, Practical Labs, Smart classrooms, Wi-Fi and well stocked Library.Various magazines and journals are also subscribed by department for students.
The Department organises seminars, quiz contests, map filling, model making competition, educational trips, and field work relevant to the course.
An eminent luminary, Dr.Gurdev Singh Gosal was both a student and a teacher here. He headed the North Western Regional Centre of ICSSR in capacity of Honorary Director.
Currently, Dr. Poonam Mahajan from Chemistry Department is Head of Department.
